The abduction of Cherish Perrywinkle
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - With surveillance video and 911 recordings made the night Cherish Perrywinkle was taken from a Northwest Jacksonville Walmart released, News4Jax is taking a closer look at police response in those first hours of what would become a homicide investigation.
The video appears to show Donald Smith walking out of the store with Cherish at 10:41 p.m. Her body was found almost exactly 12 hours later in a wooded area behind a Northside church.
Police accuse Smith, who at the time was a registered sex offender, of taking the 8-year-old from the Lem Turner Road store on June 21, 2013, raping and killing her. His trial has been delayed for months because of pending changes to the state's death penalty laws.
"I don't want him to kill her," Cherish's mother, Rayne Perrywinkle, told a 911 operator. "I don't want to be one of those parents who go through this."

Missing IN Girls Identified as Double Homicide Victims
Two Indiana 13-year-old girls who went missing Monday were identified as the victims of a double homicide, authorities announced at a Wednesday press conference.
On Tuesday, authorities said they found two bodies near Deer Creek in Delphi while searching for the teens: Liberty German and Abigail Williams. But they had not confirmed that the manner of death was homicide or the identity of the bodies.
“It is disturbing,” Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leazenby said. “There is somebody out there that did do this crime and we’re going to track them down.”
Liberty and Abigail’s bodies were found by authorities less than a mile from where they were last seen alive, authorities said. They were reported missing by family on Monday evening after they were dropped off to go hiking near an abandoned railroad bridge known as “Mile High Bridge.” During the hike, Liberty posted a photo to Snapchat of Abigail walking on the bridge alone. The friends were supposed to be picked up by family later that afternoon but they never showed up to the pickup location. (Continued at Link)

62-year-old Muslim man tried to kidnap 7-year-old girl for sex
Investigators say they contacted Ahmed and while interviewing him saw a ski mask with holes cut out for the eyes and nose as well as a bag of condoms.
When asked why he had the ski mask his response was “it’s cold in St. Louis,” according to an arrest affidavit. He was also asked about the condoms and said they were for prostitutes,” the affidavit states.
A deputy who interviewed Ahmed said he confessed to walking the child forcibly to his house against her will and stated numerous times that she is a prostitute and wanted sex.

Grandfather Fights Off Woman Attempting to Kidnap His Granddaughter
A family’s afternoon at the park took a frightening turn this weekend in Auburn, California, when police say a 3-year-old girl’s grandfather had to physically intervene to stop her abduction, PEOPLE confirms. Lindsay Frasher, 28, is being held on $200,000 bail after being charged with a single kidnapping count in connection with the incident.
According to Auburn police, the girl and her sibling were near the duck pond at Ashford Park with their grandfather on Saturday when Frasher allegedly approached them. Authorities tell PEOPLE that Frasher allegedly walked up to the little girl and called her by a different name before snatching her up — then the grandfather sprang into action, latching onto the little girl. An academic conference held at the University of Cambridge said that pedophilia interest is “natural and normal for males”, and that “at least a sizable minority of normal males would like to have sex with children, and normal males are aroused by children.”
These sentiments were discussed at a conference that took place last year to discuss the classification of sexuality in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), the standard international psychiatric manual used by the legal system.
The conference, which was titled “Classifying Sex: Debating DSM-5″, had featured a number of speakers who spoke in favor of sex with children, which, in essence, is supporting pedophilia.
The American Psychiatric Association (APA), which produces it, had been locked in battle over whether hebephilia should be included as a disorder. Hebephilia is the sexual preference for children in early puberty, typically 11 to 14 year old’s.
The proposal was being discussed because children are going through puberty at a younger age and the current definition of pedophilia is attraction to pre-pubescent children.
One of the attendees, and enthusiastic participant, was Tom O’Carroll, a multiple child sex offender and long time campaigner for the legalization of sex with children and former head of the Paedophile Information Exchange. “Wonderful!” he wrote on his blog afterwards. “It was a rare few days when I could feel relatively popular!”

Girl, 8, Sexually Assaulted and Murdered After Being Abducted from Front Porch
An 8-year-old girl was abducted from her front porch in a small southern Illinois city while she waited for a church bus – then sexually assaulted and murdered – one day before Thanksgiving, authorities say.
Sabrina Stauffenberg’s body was found near a vinegar plant Wednesday night, hours after she vanished, the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
On Sunday, police arrested 53-year-old Glen Ramey in connection with Sabrina’s death, PEOPLE confirms. He was taken into custody around 2:20 a.m. on Sunday and charged with first-degree murder and predatory sexual assault.
“She was standing on her front porch, waiting for the church bus. She was on the phone with her grandma at the time,” Denise Haley, a friend of Sabrina’s family, told the News-Democrat. “She was telling her grandma that the church bus hadn’t come.”
Sabrina’s grandmother hung up and called the church to ask why the bus was late. When she tired to call Sabrina again, there was no answer, Haley said.

Man Tried To Lure Girls Into Vehicle
Police are searching for a man who tried to lure two girls into his vehicle last week in the Hermosa neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
The girls, ages 10 and 14, were playing outside about 6 p.m. Nov. 21 in the 4000 block of West Wabansia when a four-door vehicle pulled up and the driver motioned with his hands for the girls to come closer, according to a community alert from Chicago Police.
The girls approached the vehicle and the man told them to get in so he could take them to the store, police said. (Continued at link)

11-year-old girl's kidnapping and rape by two men solved by DNA
The kidnapping and rape of an 11-year-old girl who was abducted as she walked home in Santa Ana in 1999 has been solved thanks to DNA evidence, police say.
Earlier this year, cold-case detectives submitted DNA samples that were collected during the initial investigation to the Orange County Crime Lab in hopes of finding matches.
One of the samples matched DNA from Ismael Salgado, 36, a former Santa Ana resident who had recently moved to Chicago, police said in a statement. The second DNA sample didn’t have a match in the county’s criminal database.
But after searching Salgado’s background, authorities began tracking Jose Plascencia, 36, an associate of Salgado’s who once lived in Santa Ana but had since moved to a Phoenix suburb in Arizona, police said. (Continued at link)

Man Approaches Arlington Girl On Her Way To School

Authorities in Arlington [Texas] have issued a safety alert for parents on Tuesday as kids head off to classes. A young girl from Ditto Elementary School was able to get away Friday after being approached by a man while she was on her way to a friend’s house in the morning.
The girl and her friend were then going to walk together to campus, police said.
The school’s principal sent a letter to parents, warning about the situation. The stranger “made contact” with the 11-year-old girl from behind, putting the child into a bear hug, while they were both walking Friday near the intersection of Arkansas Lane and Green Oaks Boulevard, just under a mile away from the school building.
The incident was reported to police, and officials with Ditto Elementary School are urging anyone who experiences something similar to call 911 and do the same.
Police described the suspect as a man in his 50s, just over six feet tall with a thin build. He either had a mustache or a goatee, and was generally unshaven. No further details were released about the man. In fact, authorities stated Tuesday that they may have already been able to identify him.
The news left parent Amanda Barton shaken. She has a 5-year-old child who attends Ditto Elementary School. “I just want all parents to understand how important it is to make sure that your children are safe at all times,” Barton said Tuesday, “because he could have gotten away with that little girl.”
But this was not the only incident to take place on Friday in Arlington. A second child was approached by a man in a car in the 1600 block of Randol Mill Road, while he was heading home from Wimbish Elementary School. The man asked the 6-year-old boy if he wanted a ride. The boy refused, but the man grabbed the child and tossed him into the vehicle anyway. There was an inappropriate exchange before the man let the boy out of the car.
Police are not sure if the two cases are connected. Ditto Elementary School and Wimbish Elementary School are located about seven miles apart from each other.
Officials said that this is a good reminder to talk with your kids about ‘stranger danger’ and what they should do if a situation like this happens. Also, it is good to make sure that your children are never out walking alone. Third-grader Caleb Barnes has already learned his lesson. “If you see a stranger, if you know that it looks a bit bad,” he explained, “you should say, ‘You’re not my parent!’ and then you should go tell an adult.”

Pacifica, CA, police investigating attempted kidnapping of girl on Halloween
Pacifica police are investigating an attempted kidnapping of a girl on Halloween, police said.
Police said it happened at around 4:53 p.m. in the area of Hickey Boulevard and Firecrest Avenue. The suspect drove up to the girl, who was walking on the sidewalk, and began honking the horn of his car.
The suspect then yelled at the girl to get into his car, police said. When the girl did not, the suspect got out of his car, grabbed the girl, and forced her into his car, police said.

Attempted child abduction near school in Daly City, CA
A man tried to abduct a child in Daly City on Wednesday afternoon near a school, according to police.
The incident happened near F.D. Roosevelt K-8 school, located at 1200 Skyline Dr., at around 3:45 p.m. Police said the attempted abduction happened on Skyline Drive between Longview Drive and Oceanside Drive near the grassy lot area, police said.
The suspect is described as being in his 20s, wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans, a close-cut beard. Police said the suspect is white. The man allegedly grabbed the child from behind. The student was able to break free and run home.

Woman stops attempted child abduction near KY elementary school
LMPD is investigating after an attempted child abduction early Thursday morning near Jacob Elementary School in south Louisville.
Atosha Haley, whose daughter attends the school, had dropped her off and was on the way home around 8:30 a.m. She says she noticed the driver in front of her slow down on three separate occasions to talk with little girls. She says she considered it could be a parent but by the fourth time the van slowed, she panicked.
Haley says a little girl walking by herself was reaching for the van's door handle. Haley jumped out of her car and began yelling.
For a moment she was not sure if the girl would come to her, "Then I yelled in a deeper voice for her to come and she listened and as soon as that happened the van sped off real fast. Then I knew something was going on."

SUSPECT IN CUSTODY AFTER ATTEMPTED CHILD ABDUCTION NEAR WILLOW GROVE SCHOOL
Centralia, PA, Police have a suspect in custody after an attempted child abduction this morning at Willow Grove School in Centralia.
Police reports indicate that around 8:15, a white male allegedly grabbed a girl near the school at South Brookside Avenue and 7th Street. The nearby mother of the child, reportedly yelled at the man, who let the child go unharmed.
Several schools were on lockdown as a result of the incident, but the all clear was given by the police department after the arrest.

Ormond Beach police are asking residents to be on the lookout after an unknown man tried to grab a toddler from a Publix shopping cart. PA Girl Found 2 Days After She Went to Buy a Coloring Book
A 13-year-old Pennsylvania girl who walked to the store to buy a coloring book on Friday was found dead two days later, police confirm to PEOPLE.
Shevy McGiffin of Clarion, Pennsylvania, was found dead in a stream in a forest near her home on Sunday afternoon, Pennsylvania State Police said in a statement. MINNEAPOLIS — Danny James Heinrich, the child pornography suspect who led police to the remains of Jacob Wetterling, admitted in court Tuesday that he killed the 11-year-old Minnesota boy who disappeared 27 years ago, CNN affiliate WCCO reported.

CLOWNS TRYING TO LURE CHILDREN INTO THE S.C. WOODS
Deputies spoke with children who told them clowns tried "to persuade them into the woods further by displaying large amounts of money." The children advised they believed the clowns lived in an old house near a pond, accessible via a trail behind the apartment complex. The house near the pond was located, but deputies said they found no signs of suspicious activity or clowns.
According to the investigative report, deputies also received two prior calls about clowns in the area and one call about gunshots being fired at clowns.

"WOMAN TRIED TO ABDUCT BOY WALKING TO SCHOOL IN BAYTOWN
BAYTOWN, TX -- Police are looking for a woman who they believe tried to abduct a fifth-grade boy in Baytown as he was walking to his Goose Creek ISD school Wednesday morning. Police say a woman was sitting in her light-colored SUV around 7:30am Wednesday in the middle of Garth, facing north, when she got the little boy's attention.
"We live in a sick world and you can never be too careful," concerned mom Gina Bloom said. Bloom wants to think her girls are safe to walk to and from school, but she simply doesn't allow it. "And we have I-10 right here and Garth is a main thoroughfare in Baytown so you never know," she said. Bloom and other parents got a letter from Victoria Walker Elementary school's principal this week about a woman who apparently tried to kidnap a fifth grade boy. (continued at link)
